A Kogi State indigene, David Benjamin Ajogu, has alleged that persistent threats to his life have forced him into hiding and may compel him to seek refuge outside Nigeria. In a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna, Ajogu said the threats began after he publicly spoke against insecurity and attacks affecting communities in Kajuru, Kachia, and Jema’a local government areas of Southern Kaduna.
According to him, repeated threatening phone calls and messages have raised concerns about his safety and that of his family. “My outspoken stance and political advocacy against the attacks made me a target of intimidation and persecution,” he said.
Ajogu stated that he had relocated several times and moved members of his family to safer locations because of the alleged threats.“ At that point, it became obvious that my life was no longer safe,” he added. He also said he remained committed to speaking out despite the risks, noting that he did not want victims of violence and insecurity to be forgotten.
Southern Kaduna has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years, prompting repeated calls from community leaders, civil society groups, and political stakeholders for stronger government intervention. There was no immediate response from security agencies regarding Ajogu’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
