Lagos Unveils Green Kiosk Initiative, Targets N1.28bn Annual Revenue

LAGOS – The Lagos State government has unveiled the La­gos Green Kiosk Initiative, a new urban renewal programme ex­pected to enhance the city’s aesthetics, promote renewable energy adop­tion and generate approxi­mately N1.28 billion annu­ally for the state.

Dr. Abiodun Oluyinka Olumide, the state Com­missioner for Physical Planning and Urban De­velopment, disclosed the initiative at Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday,

during the 2026 Min­isterial Press Briefing to mark the seventh year of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration.

According to Dr. Olu­mide, the initiative was introduced by the Lagos State Informal Space Man­agement Authority (LA­SISMA) as part of efforts to improve physical order­liness and transform the management of informal urban spaces across the state.

He said that the Green Kiosk project is designed to create a more organised and environmentally-sus­tainable urban environ­ment while reducing de­pendence on traditional energy sources.

“The Lagos Green Kiosk initiative was introduced to improve physical or­derliness, enhance urban aesthetics, promote re­newable energy usage and reduce deforestation. The initiative has the potential to generate approximately N1.28 billion annually,” he said.

The commissioner ex­plained that the initiative forms part of the govern­ment’s broader strategy to modernise informal com­mercial spaces, encourage cleaner energy alternatives and create a more attrac­tive urban landscape in line with global sustain­ability standards.

He noted that LASISMA has intensified efforts to regulate and transform informal urban corridors through strategic plan­ning, environmental man­agement and innovative interventions aimed at im­proving the quality of life for residents.

“As part of these efforts, the agency continued re­al-time data collation on informal urban activities, monitored setbacks and roadsides, and strength­ened collaborations with several government agen­cies to ensure coordinated urban management,” he said.

Olumide disclosed that LASISMA also developed action plans for key ur­ban corridors, including the AIT Powerline High Tension Corridor, New Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge Emerging Space, Agric-Isa­wo Informal Urban Space, Itamaga-Elepe-Maya Corri­dor and Ogolonto-Ipakodo Corridor.

He said the interven­tion plans involved drone mapping, reconnaissance surveys, stakeholder en­gagements and enforce­ment activities aimed at preventing encroachment and improving physical orderliness within these locations.

In another innovation targeted at environmental sustainability, the com­missioner revealed that the agency introduced the Hybrid Solar Powered Air Compressor Pumping Ma­chine (HYPAC) for vulca­nisers.
