The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the killing of nine pastoralists by suspected bandits in Achele-Ika, Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Kogi State Secretary of MACBAN, Suleiman Muhammed, the association described the incident as barbaric and called on security agencies, particularly the police, to investigate the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
According to the statement, the victims were identified as Isiaka Lawal; Larai Musa, wife of Isiaka Lawal; Abdullahi Isiaka; Isah Isiaka; Saleh Isiaka; Samsiya Adamu; Asma’u Siuni; Basullube Musa; and Bello Musa.
MACBAN added that several other persons sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ankpa.
The association said it was “saddened and outraged” by what it described as the brutal killing of innocent pastoralist men, women, and children in the community.
“We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest terms and call on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served,” the statement said.
MACBAN warned that continued attacks on pastoral communities could heighten tensions among previously peaceful groups if not urgently addressed.
“The continued targeting and killing of innocent pastoral communities is dangerous, unacceptable and capable of worsening tensions among peaceful communities,” the association stated.
The group also extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.
It further appealed to governments at all levels, humanitarian organisations, and relevant authorities to provide urgent relief materials and medical assistance to affected families.
The association urged members of the pastoralist community and residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding while allowing security agencies to carry out investigations.
“The sanctity of human life must be protected at all times regardless of ethnic background, religion or occupation.
“Nigeria belongs to all citizens, and every Nigerian deserves equal protection under the law,” the statement added.
