The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on the occasion of the country’s National Day celebrated annually on May 28.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria described the occasion as a significant moment in the history of Ethiopia, noting that it commemorates the country’s proud sovereignty as Africa’s oldest independent nation and its enduring resilience in the pursuit of unity and progress.
Nigeria commended Ethiopia for its pivotal role in advancing African unity and continental integration, particularly as host of the Headquarters of the African Union. The statement also acknowledged Ethiopia’s sustained commitment to dialogue, regional peace, and multilateral diplomacy.
According to the Ministry, Nigeria and Ethiopia, being among Africa’s most populous and influential nations, share a longstanding relationship rooted in friendship, solidarity, and a collective vision for a peaceful and prosperous continent.
“The bilateral relationship between both countries remains robust and multifaceted, anchored on a shared commitment to continental stability and economic revitalization,” the statement said.
Nigeria further reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Ethiopia, while commending the growing collaboration between the private sectors of both countries, especially the investments of Dangote Industries in Ethiopia’s cement and fertilizer sectors.
The Federal Government also expressed optimism towards the finalisation of agreements on broader partnerships in other strategic sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Ethiopia as it continues to implement domestic reforms and maintain its stabilizing role in the Horn of Africa.
Nigeria expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between Abuja and Addis Ababa would continue to expand, promoting greater trade, investment, and shared prosperity under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Federal Government once again extended its felicitations to the Government and people of Ethiopia on the celebration of the National Day.
