A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, has defeated a serving Senator, Neda Imasuen, and former governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the Edo South Senatorial District All Progressives Congress (APC) primary.
Ogbeide-Ihama, who represented Oredo Federal Constituency for two terms in the National Assembly, was declared winner of the keenly contested primary conducted across the seven local government areas that make up the district.
The engineer-turned-politician polled 27,154 votes to defeat his closest rival, Imasuen, who scored 13,580 votes, while Ize-Iyamu polled 6,785 votes.
Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Edo State, Mohammed Ajana, announced the results at Urhokpota Hall in Benin City on Monday.
Ogbeide-Ihama, who ventured into politics two decades ago, has built a reputation for winning tightly contested races since 2015, a pattern he maintained in the Edo South senatorial primary where he defeated two prominent political figures.
