Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, has assured non-indigenes and various interest groups of active participation in his proposed administration if elected.
Oyebamiji gave the assurance during an interactive session with members of the Arewa community held in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area, on Sunday.
Represented by former Special Adviser on Civic Engagement under the administration of ex-governor Gboyega Oyetola, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the APC candidate said his government would prioritise an inclusive leadership style that reflects the voices and interests of all residents.
According to him, the administration would establish a governance structure designed to strengthen grassroots participation and ensure that government actions align with the needs of the people.
He stressed that non-indigenes and other community stakeholders would not be sidelined but would be encouraged to play meaningful roles in governance.
“Everyone will be carried along in the administration and given the opportunity to contribute. This approach will promote unity and create a sense of belonging among all residents,” he stated.
Oyebamiji also promised to involve citizens in policy development and implementation processes, noting that such collaboration would enhance development efforts and support the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He added that, if elected, his government would sustain people-centred programmes associated with the APC by maintaining close engagement with farmers, artisans, labour groups, traders and non-indigene communities as strategic partners in governance.
In his remarks, the Seriki of the Arewa community in Obokun Local Government Area, Alhaji Ayuba Abubakar, praised the administration of former governor Oyetola for maintaining steady communication with the community.
Abubakar said the previous government, through the Office of Civic Engagement, played a key role in resolving communal tensions and preventing conflicts in different parts of the state.
He recalled interventions made during periods of unrest, which, according to him, helped restore peace and stability.
“Since those efforts, our community has continued to enjoy peaceful coexistence. Through Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, land was secured for our people, and government support has remained consistent through palliative measures,” he said.
He urged Oyebamiji to build on the relationship fostered by the former APC administration, while declaring the community’s backing for the party in the forthcoming governorship contest.
Abubakar also appealed for policies that would encourage business growth and drive economic development across the state.
