School Kidnappings: Ohanaeze Oyo Backs Makinde, Demands Immediate Rescue Of Abducted Pupils

The Oyo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has condemned the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing the incident as a brutal attack on education, humanity, and peaceful coexistence.

In a statement jointly signed by the chapter’s President, Okechukwu Nwabunike, and Executive Secretary, Promise Aja, the group expressed deep sorrow over the attack on the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities.

The organization sympathized with the affected families, school communities, and residents of Oyo State, describing the mass kidnapping as a heartbreaking act carried out against innocent children and educators.

Ohanaeze also condemned the killing of mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, whose death was confirmed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde after a disturbing video surfaced online.

The group described the murder as a grim reflection of the cruelty of the abductors and extended condolences to the victim’s family, as well as relatives of security personnel and local vigilantes reportedly killed during rescue efforts.

Throwing its support behind Governor Makinde’s administration, the organization commended the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining security across Oyo State.

Ohanaeze called on security agencies, including the police and military, to deploy every available resource toward rescuing the abductees and bringing those responsible to justice.

The group also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence while avoiding the spread of sensitive information capable of undermining ongoing rescue operations.

According to the organization, stronger community-based security measures and improved school safety systems are urgently needed to prevent future attacks.

Ohanaeze further appealed to Igbo communities across the South-West to support affected families through prayers, solidarity, and humanitarian assistance.

“Insecurity can only be defeated through national unity and collective resolve,” the statement added, while praying for the safe return of all abducted victims.
