The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has adopted the consensus method for its primaries in 11 federal constituencies, producing candidates ahead of the general elections.
One of the consensus candidates, Hon. Bala Hassan, who represents Sokoto North and Sokoto South Federal Constituency, emerged unopposed and pledged to ensure his constituents continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation by APC delegates from the constituency, Hassan said he would build on the progress already recorded and deepen development initiatives in the area.
The exercise, which was held at the APC State Secretariat along Sultan Abubakar Road in Sokoto, was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and observed by security agencies.
However, the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency was the only exception, where two aspirants reportedly contested in an election.
Hassan said he had secured approval from the federal government for the construction of 20 solar-powered boreholes across his constituency, aimed at improving access to potable water.
He also disclosed that more than 350 standalone solar-powered streetlights had already been installed in various communities to enhance security and improve night-time activities.
“This is an achievement we are proud of, and we will do more,” he said.
He also expressed support for the second-term bid of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and thanked his political mentor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his guidance and support.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the Screening and Affirmation Committee, Alhaji Farouq Abubakar Wurno, welcomed delegates, noting that stakeholders had unanimously agreed on Hon. Hassan as the sole aspirant for the ticket.
He prayed for Hassan’s success in the forthcoming general election.
