Tinubu Hails APC Primaries, Says Exercise Shows Strength Of Internal Democracy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries across the country, describing the exercise as a strong indication that internal democracy is taking root within the ruling party.

Tinubu spoke on Saturday after participating in the APC presidential primary at Ward E, Ikoyi, Lagos State, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

He said the process had so far been peaceful, orderly and consistent with democratic principles.

“This is a demonstration of internal democracy and it has been going very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved,” he said.

The President stressed that the exercise was designed to deepen democratic participation within the party structure.

“This is to ensure that we have internal democracy and that the process is peaceful and well organised,” he added.

Tinubu also expressed satisfaction with the role played by APC governors in supervising the primaries across their respective states, following their mandate to coordinate the exercise.

“To date, I am very satisfied. The governors have done very well in their various states — from the ward congresses to the local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation and members’ registration. The entire electoral process has been going very well,” he said.

He further noted that the smooth conduct of the primaries reflected positively on Nigeria’s broader democratic process.

“At least, you will score democracy at a high level,” he said.

Speaking on the support from party members and supporters, the President added that it serves as motivation for greater commitment.

“I am just excited. They challenge me more,” Tinubu said.
