Troops neutralise two suspected bandits, recover AK-47 in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised 2 suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

‎The operation, conducted on May 24, 2026, followed credible intelligence reports of gunshots heard around a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District.


‎According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and carried out a raid on the suspected hideout.

‎The statement noted that the troops engaged the suspected criminals in a gun duel upon arrival at the scene, leading to the neutralization of 2 of the assailants.

‎Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, 5 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 2 AK-47 magazines, 2 mobile phones and other personal belongings.


‎The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response further urging the soldiers to sustain the ongoing offensive against criminal elements in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to rid Taraba State of insecurity and other forms of criminal activities.

‎He also disclosed that the Nigerian Army’s reward and sanction policy would apply to personnel involved in the successful operation reassuring residents of the state that the Brigade remained committed to maintaining pressure on criminal elements until peace and security are fully restored across the state
