US President Donald Trump told a group of Arab and Muslim leaders during a joint call on Saturday that he wants their countries to join the so-called Abraham Accords and sign peace treaties with Israel if an agreement is reached to end the war against Iran, according to a report.
Israeli Channel 12 reported on Sunday evening, citing two US officials familiar with the call, that Trump spoke with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain to discuss the expected agreement with Iran.
According to the report, Trump’s remarks during the call “point to the next major step he wants to take in the Middle East” after the war with Iran.
It added that Trump’s main goal is to reach a “historic peace agreement” between Saudi Arabia and Israel, but said the current political climate in the region and the upcoming Israeli elections make any breakthrough in the near future unlikely.
Regarding the expected deal with Iran, the leaders who joined the call, including UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who reportedly took a tougher stance on the war with Iran, expressed support for the US president.
