Ugochinyere Sympathises With IGP Disu Over Army School Attack In Yobe, Demands War Against Terrorists

The member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has sympathised with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and the families of police officers killed during a terrorist attack on an Army training facility in Yobe State.

At least 17 police officers undergoing specialised operational training were reportedly killed after suspected Islamist insurgents attacked the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Police authorities confirmed that the officers were participating in advanced tactical and counter-terrorism training when the gunmen launched a coordinated overnight assault on the military facility from multiple directions.

Reacting to the incident in a statement on Monday, Ugochinyere described the attack as painful, tragic and a direct assault on Nigeria’s security architecture.

The lawmaker said the continuous killing of security personnel and innocent Nigerians by terrorists and bandits requires stronger and more decisive action from the Federal Government and security agencies.

He commended the courage and sacrifice of the fallen officers, noting that they paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

Ugochinyere urged the Federal Government to immediately intensify military operations against insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements terrorising communities across the country.

According to him, Nigeria must now declare a full-scale war against terrorism and banditry, stressing that anything short of a coordinated and aggressive response would further embolden criminal groups.

He also called for improved intelligence gathering, better welfare for security personnel and enhanced operational support for the armed forces and police to effectively combat insecurity nationwide.

The lawmaker prayed for the peaceful repose of the slain officers and extended condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, the bereaved families and the entire nation over the incident.
