A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Faizu Alfindiki, has called on former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to return to the ruling party, warning that continued political isolation could further diminish his influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alfindiki appealed in a statement issued in Kano, where he expressed concern over the recent crisis that has trailed the primary elections of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the controversies surrounding the primaries have exposed deep divisions within the party and should prompt Kwankwaso to reassess his political future.
“Senator Kwankwaso should return to APC before it is too late. Politics is dynamic, and wise leaders know when to retrace their steps for the greater good,” Alfindiki said.
He argued that the former governor’s journey through different political platforms had not yielded the expected results and had instead weakened the political structure he once commanded.
“The reality today is different from what it was years ago. The political environment has changed, and the signs are clear that he needs a fresh strategy if he wants to remain relevant in national politics,” he stated.
Alfindiki further claimed that Kwankwaso’s political alliance with Peter Obi had not been well received by many Northern voters.
“Many people in the North became uncomfortable with that alliance. It created doubts among his traditional supporters and affected the broad appeal he once enjoyed across the region,” he said.
The APC chieftain maintained that the ongoing disagreements within the NDC could further complicate Kwankwaso’s political calculations.
“The crisis emerging from the party’s primaries is not a healthy sign. When party members begin to openly challenge the process, it raises serious questions about unity and the future of the platform,” he noted.
He described APC as a familiar political home for Kwankwaso, pointing out that many of his former associates and allies had already settled in the ruling party.
“We still see him as one of us. Many of his friends, political associates and brothers have pitched their tent in APC. The door is not closed against him,” Alfindiki said.
According to him, returning to APC would not be a sign of weakness but an act of political maturity and statesmanship.
“There is no shame in reconciliation. Great leaders make difficult decisions when circumstances demand it. Returning to APC can help preserve his legacy and restore confidence among his supporters,” he added.
Alfindiki insisted that his intervention was motivated by respect for the former governor’s contributions to Kano and Nigerian politics.
“We appreciate what Senator Kwankwaso has done over the years. This appeal is made in good faith. We want him to return home and work with those committed to the progress of Kano State and Nigeria,” he said.
He urged the former governor to place the interests of his supporters above personal and political differences, saying the time had come for unity rather than further division within Kano’s political landscape.
