ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu of being more focused on political activities than on securing the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State on May 15, 2026.

In a statement released by his spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, Atiku expressed frustration that as the nation awaits the safe return of the abductees, the federal government appears preoccupied with political engagements rather than treating the crisis with the urgency it demands.

He directed particular criticism at the First Lady, alleging that several activities that have drawn public anger were personally presided over by her.

Atiku argued that a true mother would not celebrate or host political festivities while children remain missing, but would instead use every available platform to keep their plight at the centre of national attention until they are safely returned to their families.

He condemned what he described as political pageantry including campaign events, celebrations, and the distribution of gifts to political loyalists at a time when families of the abducted victims are enduring immense anguish.

He stressed that Nigerians expect compassion and urgency from their leaders in moments of national tragedy, not festivity.
