Bauchi Youth Association Reject Zaar Chiefdom Inclusion, Allege Breach In Traditional Leadership Selection

BAUCHI – The National Youth Wing of the Boi Progressive Association (BPA) in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has strongly rejected the forced inclusion of the Ayaa (Boi) people into the Zaar Chiefdom.
The group also condemned what it described as a major breach of their traditional village head selection process.
The group’s position was made public on Thursday in Bauchi through a joint statement signed by the National Youth Secretary, Comrade Kalayenta Kevin, on behalf of the National Youth Chairman, Jonas Munaka.Rejection of Zaar Chiefdom Inclusion.
The association stated that from the beginning of government discussions regarding the creation of new chiefdoms, emirates, and districts in Bauchi State, the Ayaa people have consistently and unequivocally rejected being placed under the Zaar Chiefdom.
They noted that this position has been repeatedly communicated to the authorities through various memoranda, petitions, and official representations.
The youth wing clarified that their opposition does not stem from hostility toward their neighbours, but rather from a legitimate desire to preserve their distinct cultural identity, historical heritage, and traditional customs.
“Unfortunately, despite our repeated objections and appeals, the Ayaa people have been forcefully placed under the Zaar Chiefdom through a process that ignored our collective will and aspirations,” the statement read.
The group blamed the development on a handful of politically motivated individuals who prioritised personal interests over the wishes of the community.
The BPA urgently appealed to the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to revisit the matter and facilitate the immediate removal of Boi District from the Zaar Chiefdom in the interest of justice and fairness.
In addition to the chiefdom grievance, the youth group expressed deep dissatisfaction with a recent appointment within the Boi traditional institution, alleging that it violated established customs.
According to the association, the appointment of a village head in Ayaa land is historically the exclusive responsibility of seven recognised kingmakers.

The group stressed that this process is a sacred institution that ensures legitimacy and continuity for the community.The statement noted:
“The recent action appears to have completely disregarded this established process and bypassed the authority of the recognised kingmakers. Such a departure from our customary procedures undermines the integrity of our traditional institutions.”
While reiterating its commitment to peace and lawful engagement, the BPA National Youth Wing stated that it will not accept actions that distort its traditions or undermine its identity.
The association called on the Bauchi State Government and relevant authorities to review the controversial appointment immediately to ensure compliance with Ayaa customary law.
They also urged the government to engage in a sincere dialogue with the legitimate representatives of the Ayaa people to address their ongoing grievances and secure lasting peace in the region.
