Boko Haram: Families Cry Out Over 13 Abducted Borno Travellers, Seven-month-old Baby

Families of 13 travellers abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents along the Biu–Damaturu highway in Borno State have appealed to the Federal Government, the Borno State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue their loved ones.

The victims, including women and a seven-month-old baby, were reportedly abducted on April 15, 2026, around the Kamuya axis of the state.

The suspected terrorists were said to have intercepted two Golf Wagon vehicles conveying passengers along the highway before whisking the occupants away to an unknown destination.

Naijaonpoint reports that the appeal was contained in a statement signed on Wednesday by Mallam Hassan Yati on behalf of the affected families.

Yati said relatives of the abducted travellers had been living in fear, pain and uncertainty since the incident, adding that the families had received little or no information about the whereabouts or condition of the victims.

He described the abduction of women and children, including a seven-month-old baby, as heartbreaking and traumatic.

According to him, the affected families have continued to endure sleepless nights and emotional distress as days turned into weeks without any meaningful update on rescue efforts.

“The families are calling on government authorities, security agencies, humanitarian organisations and all relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted travellers,” Vanguard quoted Yati’s statement as reading.

Yati said the continued captivity of the victims had deepened the suffering of their families, who were only hoping to see their loved ones return home alive.

He added that every passing day had increased the fear and anxiety of innocent families already traumatised by the abduction.

The families also appealed to Nigerians to remember the victims in prayers and support all lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace and security along major highways in the North-East.

They expressed hope that with urgent and coordinated action by the authorities, the abducted travellers could still be rescued alive and reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, residents have continued to raise concerns over the deplorable condition of the Buni Gari-Kamuya-Buratai-Biu road.

The road serves as a major route linking parts of Southern Borno with Maiduguri, as well as communities in Adamawa and Gombe states.

Residents said the poor condition of the road had made travelling difficult and dangerous, especially for commuters and commercial drivers who use the route regularly.

According to them, the highway has become a death trap, with insurgents allegedly taking advantage of its bad state to launch attacks and carry out abductions.

They called on the government to urgently rehabilitate the road and increase security presence along the route to protect travellers from further attacks.
