LAGOS – Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has dedicated the prestigious Central Bank of the Year Award to the board, management and staff of the apex bank, describing the international recognition as a validation of the institution’s sweeping reforms aimed at restoring confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
Cardoso formally received the award at the annual Central Banking Awards ceremony in London on Wednesday, where he highlighted the difficult but transformative measures undertaken by the CBN over the past three years to stabilise the economy, strengthen financial institutions and rebuild investor confidence.
The award comes at a pivotal time for Nigeria as the country continues to navigate economic reforms designed to tackle inflation, improve foreign exchange market efficiency and strengthen the financial sector.
Accepting the honour, Cardoso emphasised that the recognition belonged not to him personally but to the thousands of professionals working within the central bank whose efforts have often gone unnoticed. “I accept this award on behalf of the board, management and staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” Cardoso said.
“Above all, it belongs to the many dedicated professionals who serve our institution with integrity, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.”
The CBN governor thanked Central Banking Publications and the award judges for the recognition, while also congratulating other institutions and individuals honoured during the ceremony.
His remarks underscored the significant transformation that has taken place at the apex bank since the current leadership embarked on a reform programme focused on restoring policy credibility, improving transparency and strengthening monetary management.
