Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) on Monday took custody of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Naijaonpoint reports that the officials arrived at the court premises in a prison transport vehicle, popularly known as Black Maria, and received Sowore from operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before conveying him to the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Sowore was brought out at about 2:10 p.m. from an undisclosed location within the court premises by DSS operatives.
The activist appeared upbeat as he addressed his supporters, urging them to remain resolute in their demand for a better society.
He also told the crowd that he would return to court on Wednesday for the continuation of his trial.
Sowore questioned the decision to convey him in a Black Maria, arguing that public officials accused of looting public funds were often transported in more comfortable vehicles.
He said he would have preferred to be moved in a Hilux vehicle rather than the prison transport van. The AAC presidential candidate restated his commitment to advocating for a better Nigeria.
He said he would continue to demand accountability from leaders he accused of endangering the future of coming generations.
