A coalition of civil society organisations, trade unions, youth groups, community associations, social movements and faith-based organisations on Friday staged a protest in Lagos over worsening insecurity and the rising cost of living in the country.
The demonstrators gathered at the Ikeja Under Bridge, calling on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to address the economic and security challenges facing millions of Nigerians.
Participants expressed concern over the increasing wave of insecurity, persistent inflation and the growing financial pressure on households and businesses across the country.
According to the organisers, the protest was a collective response to what they described as deteriorating living conditions, worsening economic hardship and policies that have negatively affected ordinary citizens.
The coalition urged governments at all levels to prioritise the welfare and security of Nigerians by implementing measures aimed at reducing the cost of living, improving public safety and promoting economic stability.
The protesters also called for policies that would ease the burden on vulnerable groups and create better opportunities for citizens.
The demonstration comes amid heightened public concern over rising inflation, increasing food prices and recurring security incidents reported in various parts of the country.
