Dickson Warns Against Alleged Efforts to Destabilise and Weaken Other Nigeria’s Opposition Parties  Clone

Abuja, Nigeria — National leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has expressed concern over what he described as growing attempts to undermine and destabilize opposition politics in Nigeria.

Dickson, a former governor and prominent opposition figure, stated that recent political developments suggest that certain actors are searching for what he termed “flimsy excuses” to weaken opposition parties and disrupt democratic competition.

“It is worrisome. What people are trying to do is to look for flimsy excuses to truncate, destabilise, weaken and scatter the political opposition,” Dickson said.

The NDC leader made the remarks amid increasing political tensions and debates surrounding the future of opposition alliances ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

According to Dickson, a healthy democracy requires strong political parties capable of providing alternatives to the ruling establishment. He warned that attempts to intimidate, divide, or silence opposition groups could negatively affect democratic governance and political stability.

He argued that opposition parties play a critical role in holding governments accountable and ensuring that citizens have multiple political choices. Weakening opposition structures, he said, could reduce public confidence in democratic institutions.
