The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian assistance, community resilience, and regional solidarity with the commissioning of boreholes, schools, and livelihood support projects for vulnerable populations and host communities in Ghana.
The projects were implemented under the ECOWAS Humanitarian Project on Persons of Concern (PoCs) and are aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening the resilience of affected communities, a statement said on Saturday.
Representing the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, an ECOWAS delegation led by Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, ECOWAS Resident Representative to Ghana, and Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed, Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, visited beneficiary communities in Ahafo Ano North on June 22 and 23, 2026.
Accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Adusei, the delegation paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers before commissioning the projects. They also assessed the impact of the interventions on livelihoods and community resilience.
The initiative forms part of ECOWAS’ broader humanitarian agenda to provide sustainable support for persons of concern and their host communities across the West African region, while promoting regional solidarity and socio-economic development.
