Electricity Blackouts Hits Several Regions Of Nigeria Due To Vandalism Of Six TCN Towers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that vandals destroyed six critical infrastructure towers along the crucial Apir-Lafia transmission line located in Nasarawa State.
The information was officially made public on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Abuja through a statement by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs for TCN.
According to company officials, vandals struck at roughly 1:15 a.m. on May 30 amid a severe rainstorm.
Mbah explained that following the initial tripping of one of the transmission lines, TCN attempted to restore service through a trial reclosure operation, but the effort was unsuccessful.
Subsequent investigations and a physical trace of the transmission line revealed extensive damage to key components on towers T125 to T130, confirming acts of vandalism along the affected section of the transmission corridor.
As a result of the incident, both Apir-Lafia 330kV Transmission Lines I and II remain out of service pending the reconstruction of the damaged towers.
She said TCN had already deployed engineers to the affected location to determine the extent of the damage and begin preparations for restoration works.
She said, “TCN engineers have been mobilised to the site to assess the extent of damage and ascertain materials required to commence restoring normal transmission along the corridor.”
Mbah added that the company had activated an alternative power supply arrangement to reduce the impact of the outage on electricity consumers served by the affected network.
She said, “Meanwhile, the Lafia 330kV Transmission Station is being supplied through the Lafia–Jos transmission line as a temporary measure to minimise the impact of the outage on affected electricity customers within the franchise areas of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).”
