Former Kano State Governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has denied reports claiming he accused the Kano State Government of mismanaging public funds through payments made to former councillors.
In a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the report as false, misleading and without basis.
The statement said the report did not provide any evidence of the alleged interview, including where or when it took place, the media organisation involved, the journalist who conducted it, or any proof that Ganduje made the comments.
According to the statement, Ganduje never made such remarks, adding that the report was intended to misrepresent his views and create unnecessary political tension.
“Given his status as an elder statesman who has access to government officials at both the national and state levels, it will be unbecoming of Dr Ganduje to invite the media to publicly express his views on how governments are being run,” the statement said.
It added that Ganduje believes in offering advice through the proper channels whenever necessary instead of making unverified public statements.
The statement also said efforts were underway to identify those behind the report and take legal action against them.
“The source of this misleading publication is currently being traced and necessary legal steps will be taken once those behind it are identified,” it added.
Ganduje urged the public to ignore the report and advised media organisations to verify information before publishing stories, especially those involving public figures.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to peace, accountability and responsible political engagement while calling for professionalism in public communication.
