Gunmen kill two police officers in Anambra attack

Two police officers have been killed after suspected gunmen attacked a police patrol team along the Awa-Ndiukwuenu-Ufuma road in Anambra state.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, reportedly disrupted the relative peace enjoyed in the state in recent months following intensified security operations against criminal elements.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants opened fire on the officers while they were on patrol, leaving at least two policemen dead at the scene.
A commercial tricycle operator who witnessed the incident said he fled into a nearby bush after hearing gunshots.
According to him, he later returned to the road and found two police officers lying on the ground beside their patrol vehicle.
The witness appealed for urgent intervention, claiming that one of the officers appeared to still be alive when he left the scene.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Anambra State Police Command were unsuccessful as SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson could not be reached.
