Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has revealed how security agencies foiled an alleged plan to bomb the Ondo State Government House a few months ago.
Naijaonpoint reports that the governor made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced four people to death by hanging over their involvement in the June 5, 2022 attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo.
Aiyedatiwa said the suspects, said to be five young men, were staying in a hotel where they had gathered materials and equipment believed to be meant for making bombs.
According to him, security agencies received intelligence about their activities and quickly moved into action.
He explained that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, carried out a raid on the hotel and arrested the suspects before any attack could be carried out.
The governor said the suspects were taken into custody and remained in detention while investigations continue.
He added that information available to security agencies suggested that the Government House was the intended target of the planned attack.
He said: “We have been doing so much. I will give you an example. I think it’s about three or four months ago, some youth, about five of them, they wanted to bomb the government house.
“They were in their hotel, they didn’t move into a rented apartment, and they have all the equipment, all the gadgets.
“We got an intelligence report, and the police, and Amotekun moved in, busted them in the house, where they were arrested.
“They are still in detention right now. Their mission was to bomb the government house. For what reason? Only God knows. So we are working, like I said, maybe one incident happened and it doesn’t mean that we have not been working.”
