1,500 National Youth Service Corps members posted to Anambra State for their one-year compulsory service to the nation have pledged to shun bribery and corruption but uphold the virtues of diligence, hard work, and integrity in their respective places of primary assignments.
They pledged the administration of the oath of allegiance by the Chief Judge of the Anambra State Judiciary, His Lordship Justice O.M Anyachebelu, who was represented by Justice D.C Maduechesi, at the swearing-in cum opening ceremony of the 2026 batch “B” stream 1 orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) held on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu, Awka-South Local Government Area of the state.
The corps members, comprising 636 males and 864 females, promised to serve the nation faithfully while recognising its ethnic diversity.
Coordinator of the NYSC programme in Anambra State, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, while addressing the corps members, reiterated that the oath of allegiance signified a solemn commitment to serve Nigeria faithfully and responsibly while abstaining from vices that could truncate their service year.
Ojisua therefore urged them to embrace the spirit of unity, respect for the nation’s diversity, obey camp rules and regulations and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of their families, institutions and the nation at large, even as she equally extended profound gratitude to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering support to the NYSC scheme, particularly in the areas of security, welfare and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented on the occasion by the state commissioner for youth development and sports, Hon. Patrick Aghadinuno Mba, who also doubles as the chairman of the Anambra State NYSC Governing Board, emphasised that young people have remained central to the state’s strategy of creating a liveable and prosperous homeland.
The governor noted that the government see the corps members as valuable partners in development, irrespective of whether they are posted to serve in schools, hospitals, government establishments, rural communities, agricultural projects or private organisations.
He, however, admonished the corps members to serve with diligence, professionalism and integrity, stressing that his administration has placed youth development at the heart of the Anambra Transformation Agenda (ATA).
On his part, the traditional ruler of Umuawulu community, His Royal Highness Igwe Engr. Joel Egwuonwu stressed the urgent need for the corps members to shun corrupt practices as well as acts capable of jeopardising their services to the nation.
The swearing-in ceremony featured the signing of the oath of allegiance by leaders of the various platoons while heads of federal agencies and parastatals, camp officials and a host of other guests witnessed the swearing-in cum opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) held at the orientation camp, Umuawulu, Awka-South Local Government Area of the state.
