Presidency dismisses Peter Obi’s 2027 ambition, says he cannot match Tinubu

The remarks were made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post shared on his verified X handle on Wednesday.
According to him, Tinubu’s achievements as former governor of Lagos State continue to shape the state’s development years after leaving office.
He further praised Tinubu’s record in Lagos, noting that the President left behind a comprehensive rail and road infrastructure masterplan that successive administrations have continued to implement.

“Nigeria deserves a leader who can see beyond the ken of the ordinary people, a leader who is a proven deep thinker and doer,” he added.
Onanuga concluded by insisting that Obi does not measure up to the President in terms of leadership capacity and achievements.
“Peter Obi is no match for President Bola Tinubu. They are not on the same level,” he said.
The comments come amid increasing political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and government officials intensifying efforts to shape public perception of their respective candidates.
At the time of filing this report, Peter Obi had not publicly responded to the Presidency’s latest remarks.
