IPOB-PW Hails Nnamdi Kanu Over Reported Dissolution Of DOS, Advocates Political Engagement

The Political Wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB-PW) has commended the detained leader of IPOB, , over what it described as his decision to dissolve the group’s Directorate of State (DOS), the leadership structure that has overseen the organisation’s affairs.

In a statement issued on the development, IPOB-PW said the move represented a shift towards a new approach to the Biafra agitation, stressing the need for political participation, dialogue and constitutional reform.

The group said it had consistently advocated a non-violent approach to the Biafra cause, arguing that the struggle should be repositioned in a manner that would promote the interests and wellbeing of the Igbo people.

According to IPOB-PW, Kanu had recognised the need for a change in strategy and accepted that political engagement was necessary to achieve meaningful constitutional reforms.

The faction cited the Sokoto Declaration, which it said called for Nigerians to pursue a new constitutional framework, as part of the basis for its advocacy of political mobilisation.

IPOB-PW further claimed that Barrister Maxwell Okpara’s reported interest in participating in politics reflected a growing recognition among supporters of the Biafra movement that political involvement was essential to achieving their objectives.

The group criticised the DOS, alleging that its approach had failed to address the challenges facing IPOB members and had adopted methods that were no longer effective in advancing the cause.

“Force and insistence alone cannot bring about the desired change. There is a need to engage, mobilise politically and participate in shaping Nigeria’s future,” the group said.

IPOB-PW urged IPOB supporters and members of the Igbo community to embrace what it described as a new strategy, insisting that constitutional change and the pursuit of Biafra-related demands required political organisation and engagement.

The faction said it would continue to support what it described as Kanu’s evolving approach, adding that a practical and political pathway was necessary for achieving the aspirations of Ndigbo.

The statement comes amid continuing disagreements among factions within IPOB over the direction, leadership and strategy of the movement.
