Gov Aliyu appoints Emir of Dutse SSU pro-chancellor, constitutes governing councils

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu has approved the constitution of governing councils for state-owned tertiary institutions and appointed the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sanusi, as the Pro-Chancellor of Sokoto State University.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, are aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing the administration of higher education across the state.
The newly constituted governing councils cover key institutions, including the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Shehu Shagari College of Education, Shehu Shagari University of Education, the College of Agriculture, Wurno, Sultan Abdul Rahman College of Health Technology, Gwadabawa, the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, and the College of Nursing Science, Tambuwal.
According to a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, Alhaji Yusha’u Kebbe will chair the Governing Council of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, while Prof. Aminu Salihu Mikailu will head the council of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic.
Ambassador Sahabi Isah Gada will serve as Chairman of the Governing Council of Shehu Shagari College of Education, while Prof. G. V. Ardo was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Shehu Shagari University of Education.
The governor also approved the appointment of Alhaji Yusuf Jega as Chairman of the Governing Council of the College of Agriculture, Wurno, and Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad Goronyo to head the council of Sultan Abdul Rahman College of Health Technology, Gwadabawa.
Justice Ladan Buda Tsamiya will chair the Governing Council of the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, while Prof. Hamza Muhammad Maishanu was named Chairman of the Governing Council of the College of Nursing Science, Tambuwal.
The councils comprise academics, government officials, representatives of relevant professional bodies and principal officers of the respective institutions, with responsibility for providing policy direction and supporting institutional development.
In a related development, Governor Aliyu appointed the Emir of Dutse as Pro-Chancellor of Sokoto State University.
The state government expressed confidence that the newly constituted governing councils and the university’s Pro-Chancellor would contribute to improving the quality of tertiary education and institutional governance across Sokoto State.
