The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its members not to attend any event linked to the alleged endorsement of a governorship aspirant from another political party, saying such participation would amount to anti-party activity ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The directive was issued on Friday by the Ebonyi State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Enyinnaya Udensi Alum, while reacting to reports that some people planned to endorse Chief Ifeanyi Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the name of the NDC.
Alum said the party did not approve the planned endorsement and had not given any person or group the authority to support a candidate outside the NDC.

The clarification followed reports that individuals claiming to represent the party were preparing to publicly back the PDP chieftain. Alum said the action was against the constitution and principles of the NDC.
He explained that the people linked to the planned event were no longer members of the party.
“Information reaching me, Hon. Prince Alum Enyinnaya Udensi, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is that a few former members of the party, who were sacked over financial impropriety and anti-party activities, namely Barr. Adum Chinedu, Comrade Idenyi Okechukwu, Mr. Anthony Nwofe and Rex Nwome, are purportedly going to endorse one of the factional governorship candidates of the PDP on behalf of the NDC tomorrow or soon after,” he said.
Expelled members no longer represent party
Alum said the individuals named had been expelled over financial impropriety and anti-party activities. He maintained that they no longer have the power to speak or act for the NDC.
He urged party members to stay away from any gathering organised for the alleged endorsement.
“NDC members are hereby requested not to attend any such gathering as it amounts to anti-party activities, while the general public is asked to desist from dealing with the above-named individuals as they are no longer NDC members and do not represent the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” he said.
The NDC chairman also appealed to the public not to recognise the expelled members as representatives of the party in any political matter.
He stressed that the NDC would only support its own governorship candidate when the time comes.
“Ebonyians, NDC members and other teeming supporters of the NDC in the state should note that the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State has its governorship candidate, and that the party has not and will at no time endorse any other candidate of any party other than the NDC governorship candidate,” Alum said.
The issue surfaced as political activities linked to the 2027 governorship election continue to attract attention in Ebonyi State. Political parties have started making internal preparations ahead of the election, although the official campaign period has not begun.
The NDC’s latest clarification seeks to draw a clear line between the actions of its recognised leadership and those of former members who no longer belong to the party. By rejecting the alleged endorsement, the party says it wants to avoid public misunderstanding about its position.
The chairman also said the NDC would continue efforts to strengthen its party structure throughout Ebonyi State as preparations for future elections continue. He urged members to stay united, remain loyal to the party leadership and follow the party’s rules while political activities continue toward the 2027 governorship election.
