Parents of dozens of Israeli soldiers serving in Lebanon have said they will not allow their sons to be “sacrificed for external considerations”, calling for an end to the fighting and the immediate return of troops.
The appeal came in an “urgent” letter sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, according to Israel’s Channel 12 television on Tuesday evening, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
In the letter, the parents said: “Our soldiers in Lebanon are operating with their hands tied, and it appears that external factors are dictating the course of events. We will not allow our soldiers to be sacrificed because of external considerations or indifference on the part of the political leadership.”
They also called on ministers whose children and grandchildren do not serve in the Israeli army, and who “take pride in that”, not to participate in decisions related to the war.
The parents added: “So far, we do not see a clear objective for the military operation in Lebanon. It is impossible to leave Israeli soldiers in a state of uncertainty. Either defeat the enemy or end the fighting immediately and bring all the soldiers home.”
