The Nigerian Army says troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and destroyed a bandits’ camp during ongoing operations in Zamfara State.
This was contained in an operational report made available to newsmen on Saturday in Abuja.
According to the report, the operation was carried out on June 12 across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry and other criminal activities in the region.
Troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa reportedly made contact with terrorists in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.
The report stated that a firefight ensued, during which one terrorist was neutralised while others escaped with injuries.
Weapons and items recovered from the scene included rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, woodland camouflage trousers, and an inner vest.
Following the encounter, troops continued their advance towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the terrorists reportedly abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing forces.
The Army said the troops cleared the area and subsequently destroyed the camp to prevent its reuse by criminal elements.
It also confirmed that three kidnapped victims were rescued during follow-up clearance operations and moved to a safe location for further care.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustained offensive operations across Zamfara and the wider North-West until terrorist and bandit networks are dismantled and peace is restored to affected communities.
