The House of Representatives was thrown into a rowdy session on Wednesday as lawmakers engaged in a heated confrontation over a motion seeking to invite President Bola Tinubu to explain the alleged non-release of funds for constituency projects.
The motion, sponsored by Alex Mascot Ikwechegh (LP – Abia State), urged the President to appear before the House to address the continued delay in funding constituency projects across the country.
The proposal was seconded, while another lawmaker moved an amendment calling for the suspension of plenary for one week until the funding issue is resolved.
The motion triggered intense debate among members.
During the deliberations, Yusuf Gagdi (APC – Plateau State) opposed the move, arguing that there was no justification for summoning the President since the execution and funding of constituency projects are the responsibility of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
He also dismissed the proposal to suspend legislative proceedings for one week, describing it as unnecessary.
Gagdi’s remarks sparked strong reactions from some lawmakers, leading to shouting and disorder on the floor of the chamber.
As the situation became increasingly tense, Tajudeen Abbas stepped in and directed that the matter be decided through a vote by members.
