The Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company (EKSWSC) has commended the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) for its remarkable transformation and innovative approach to water utility management, describing the Corporation as a leading model for sustainable water sector reforms in Nigeria.
The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the management of the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company to the Lagos Water Corporation Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos.
The visit provided a platform for both organisations to engage in extensive technical discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration, exchanging knowledge and sharing best practices in water infrastructure management and service delivery.
Welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani described the visit as a valuable opportunity for both organisations to deepen professional relationships and jointly explore practical solutions to the common challenges confronting water utilities across Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to knowledge sharing, innovation and strategic partnerships that will strengthen the nation’s water sector.
The Ekiti delegation, led by the Managing Director, Mr Wole Afolabi, explained that the visit was inspired by Lagos Water Corporation’s ongoing Pipeline Assessment Programme and its deployment of advanced Crawler Robotic Technology for inspecting transmission pipelines to detect faults, minimise physical water losses and reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW).
According to the delegation, the initiative represents a significant milestone in modernising water infrastructure management and provides practical solutions that can be adapted to improve water service delivery in Ekiti State.
During the technical session, Lagos Water Corporation representatives – Engr. Saheed Olatunji, Engr. (Mrs.) Titilola Oridami-Bright and Mr Damilare Orekoya presented the Corporation’s comprehensive transformation agenda, highlighting its Strategic Business Plan (2025–2030).
The presentations outlined key reform initiatives, including the rehabilitation of waterworks, modernisation of transmission and distribution infrastructure, improved operational efficiency, strengthened financial sustainability, enhanced customer service, increased community engagement and the promotion of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to achieve sustainable water supply across Lagos State.
The presenters also showcased the Corporation’s ongoing Pipeline Integrity Assessment Project, explaining how advanced crawler robotic inspection technology is being utilised to assess the condition of ageing transmission mains, detect leakages and support data-driven investment decisions for infrastructure rehabilitation and expansion.
A comprehensive presentation on the Corporation’s Geographic Information System (GIS) further demonstrated how digital asset management has transformed operational planning within Lagos Water Corporation. The GIS platform enables accurate mapping of pipelines, reservoirs, valves, pumps, hydrants and other critical infrastructure while providing real-time access to maintenance records, customer information and engineering data to support informed planning and decision-making.
