A magistrate’s court in Lagos has granted bail to popular Nigerian TikToker and streamer Peller after he was arraigned on charges bordering on obstruction of police officers and breach of public peace.
The court admitted the social media personality to bail in the sum of ₦500,000 on Tuesday, bringing an end to four days of police detention following his arrest in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
Peller was arrested on Friday after an encounter with police officers and was subsequently transferred to the Ikeja Police Station, where investigations continued before he was formally charged.
He was arraigned alongside Bello Oladipo on a three-count charge relating to alleged resistance to law enforcement officers and conduct capable of disturbing public peace.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants are accused of obstructing police officers while they were carrying out their lawful duties.
They also face allegations of engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, as well as conspiracy to commit a felony.
Following their arraignment, the magistrate granted Peller bail of ₦500,000, subject to conditions set by the court.
Details of the bail conditions were not immediately made public.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to Peller’s popularity on social media and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Before he was taken into custody, the TikToker had shared a viral video in which he accused police officers of harassing him while he was driving a newly acquired vehicle.
In the video, Peller claimed the officers stopped him because the vehicle had tinted windows and did not yet have a registration number plate.
According to him, he had only recently purchased the car and was still processing the necessary documentation.
He further alleged that the situation escalated after the officers insisted on taking him into custody.
Peller claimed some officers pulled his shirt during the confrontation and pointed a firearm at his head.
The allegations quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread debate over the conduct of law enforcement officers during the incident.
Supporters of the content creator demanded his release and called for an investigation into his claims, while others argued that motorists are required to comply with traffic and vehicle registration regulations regardless of their public status.
His detention also prompted concern among fans after he suddenly disappeared from social media.
During the period he remained in police custody, fellow content creator Tunde Perry disclosed during a TikTok livestream that Peller had been unable to access his social media accounts because the police were still holding him.
The revelation fuelled further speculation online before the court proceedings confirmed that the TikToker had indeed been detained.
Peller is one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing digital creators, known for his livestreams, comedy content and collaborations with fellow influencers.
In recent weeks, he has remained in the spotlight following his traditional wedding ceremony with fellow content creator Jarvis Jadrolita, an event that generated widespread reactions across social media.
The latest legal development has once again placed the influencer at the centre of public attention.
While the court has granted him bail, the charges against him remain pending, and legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Neither Peller nor his legal representatives had publicly commented on the court’s ruling as of the time of filing this report.
The Nigeria Police Force has also yet to issue a detailed public response to Peller’s allegations regarding the circumstances of his arrest.
The case is expected to continue as the court considers the allegations against the defendants and hears evidence from both the prosecution and the defence.
