The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mahmud Adam Kambari, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with aviation journalists, promising greater inclusiveness and sustained engagement with members of the Abuja Transportation and Aviation Correspondents Association (ATACA).
Kambari gave the assurance when the leadership and members of ATACA paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abuja.
The permanent secretary said his appointment would not affect the longstanding partnership between the ministry and the association, adding that efforts would be made to strengthen collaboration with journalists covering the aviation and transportation sectors.
He acknowledged the critical role of the media in promoting government policies and programmes and pledged continued support for the association.
Kambari disclosed that whenever opportunities arise for official local and international engagements, the ministry would endeavour to include at least one ATACA representative.
He, however, urged the association to adopt a transparent and equitable process in selecting beneficiaries of such opportunities.
He also encouraged members to sustain the unity, cooperation and professionalism that have earned the association recognition over the years.
The permanent secretary commended ATACA for its consistent media support and extensive coverage of the activities of the Ministry and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
According to him, the minister remains focused on transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector through strategic reforms and innovative policies aimed at improving service delivery and infrastructure development.
Kambari further revealed that the ministry is planning a ministerial press briefing to provide updates on key programmes, policies and achievements within the aviation sector.
Responding to requests presented by the association, he assured members that the ministry would consider supporting ATACA’s Annual Conference scheduled for September 2026 and pledged maximum cooperation in advancing the association’s objectives.
He added that his office remains open to constructive engagement and advised journalists to channel concerns and suggestions through the Office of the Director of Press and Public Affairs.
Earlier, ATACA Chairman, Ejike Omeje, thanked the permanent secretary for receiving the delegation and described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen ties with the ministry.
Omeje said the association comprises more than 40 correspondents covering the transportation and aviation sectors, stressing its commitment to promoting informed and balanced reportage of developments within the industries.
He appealed for support towards the association’s annual seminar and requested the inclusion of ATACA members in official local and foreign trips to enhance media coverage of the aviation sector.
In a vote of thanks, Oru Leonard expressed appreciation for the warm reception and assured the permanent secretary of the association’s continued support and cooperation.
