The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned the Managing Director of Abu-Haneefa Oil and Gas Limited, Musa Farouk Abubakar, alongside his company and Sandra Chizoba Attoh, over an alleged N691.7 million fraud and money laundering case.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted on the official page of the EFCC on June 3, 2026.
According to the anti-graft agency, the defendants were arraigned before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on an amended 15-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, fraud, corruption and money laundering.
The commission alleged that Abubakar transferred N297 million from the account of Abu-Haneefa Oil and Gas Limited to an account belonging to Attoh in July 2025, funds it claimed were proceeds of unlawful activities.
The charges in the suit read, “That you Musa Farouk Abubakar, being the Managing Director of Abu Haneefa Oil and Gas Ltd. transferred the total sum of N297,000,000. when you reasonably ought to have known that the said money formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act,” one of the charges read.
EFCC further alleged that Attoh subsequently transferred N262.8 million from her account to Mshell Homes Limited for the purchase of a property located at Kapital Villa, Guzape, Abuja.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their plea, prosecution counsel, Rita Ogar, asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendants pending the determination of the case, while defence lawyers informed the court that bail applications had already been filed on behalf of their clients.
After hearing arguments from both parties, Justice Egwuatu ordered that Abubakar be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings on his bail application.
The court, however, granted Attoh bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties in like sum.
According to the ruling, the sureties must be residents of Abuja, own property, provide valid means of identification and passport photographs, while one of them must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 15.
Justice Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the matter until September 1 and 2, 2026, for trial.
