Security operatives from Lagos and Ogun states have intensified efforts to combat criminal activities along the border communities connecting both states, leading to the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, and the recovery of arms and ammunition during a coordinated security operation.
The joint offensive, carried out by security agencies from both states, targeted criminal hideouts and identified hotspots along the Lagos-Ogun border corridor, which has recently witnessed incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
According to security sources, the operation was designed to dismantle criminal networks exploiting the porous boundaries between the two states to evade law enforcement agencies. The coordinated raids involved personnel from various security units who conducted intelligence-driven operations across several communities.
During the operation, security operatives rescued five kidnapped victims who were reportedly being held captive by suspected criminals. The victims were subsequently reunited with their families and are said to be receiving medical attention and psychological support.
Authorities also confirmed the arrest of 88 suspects linked to various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and illegal possession of firearms. The suspects are currently undergoing screening and investigation, while those found culpable are expected to face prosecution.
In separate encounters with security personnel, four suspected criminals were killed during exchanges of gunfire. Officials said the suspects allegedly resisted arrest and engaged security operatives during the raids.
The operation further led to the recovery of several weapons and ammunition believed to have been used by criminal gangs operating within the border communities. Recovered items reportedly include firearms, cartridges, and other dangerous weapons.
Security agencies described the exercise as part of a sustained strategy to improve public safety and strengthen security cooperation between Lagos and Ogun states.
