Man Dies Retrieving Phone From Well In Kano

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the service received a distress call at about 11:13 a.m. from one of its personnel, Kabiru Tata, reporting that a man was trapped inside a well.
Firefighters from the state headquarters were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found Usman stuck inside the waste-filled well.
“The victim had reportedly entered the well to retrieve a mobile phone that had fallen inside but was unable to climb out,” the statement said.
Rescue personnel eventually brought him out unconscious, but he was later confirmed dead, with oxygen depletion and heat inside the confined space suspected to have caused his death.
The body was handed over to the Ward Head of Kwa Town, Alhaji Muktar.
Preliminary findings indicated that the incident occurred while the deceased was attempting to recover the phone.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to exercise caution around wells and other confined spaces.
He called on community leaders and residents to ensure that wells are properly covered or filled, warning against entering enclosed spaces without proper safety measures or professional assistance.
