Recent claims by Kannywood actor Nuhu Abdullahi attributing the construction of the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have prompted a significant response from local officials. Abdulmumini Kolo Gulani, a Focal Person on Cyber and Information Technology, emphasised that the project is firmly a product of the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni.
He clarified that while Governor Buni is a staunch ally of President Tinubu, loyalty to the President should not overshadow the ownership of state-funded projects. “The Damaturu Flyover is a Yobe State Government initiative, conceived, financed, and executed under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni,” he asserted. The project, valued at N22.3 billion, was awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited and is part of Buni’s broader urban renewal program aimed at transforming Damaturu into a modern capital city that meets contemporary transportation demands.
Gulani criticised the misrepresentation, stating, “Assigning the project to President Tinubu is inaccurate and unfair to the Yobe State Government, which invested substantial resources to actualise this vision.” He urged the public and commentators to responsibly recognise the contributions of both state and federal leaders without blurring the lines between their respective achievements.
According to him, Governor Buni’s administration has been marked by significant infrastructure development, including extensive road construction, healthcare enhancements, educational improvements, agricultural initiatives, and water supply projects. These efforts have significantly impacted the lives of residents, bringing about modern conveniences and economic growth across Yobe State.
“We must celebrate each leader for their genuine contributions,” Damaturu added. “The Damaturu Flyover stands as a testament to our governor’s vision for a transformed Yobe State.”
He called on public figures and influencers to verify facts before making statements related to government projects, emphasising that such responsibility is crucial to maintaining the integrity of public discourse. “History is written by facts, not assumptions,” he concluded, reinforcing the importance of accurate attribution in governance.
The Damaturu Flyover serves as a symbol of Yobe State’s transformative vision under Governor Buni, and local officials are determined to ensure that its credit remains with the rightful authorities.
