Chief Sheriff Mulade, candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for Warri Federal Constituency has dismissed reports claiming that he stepped down from the race and endorsed another aspirant.
This is contained in a statement signed by Comr. Friday Ugedi, Director of Media and Publicity of Team Chief Sheriff Mulade Campaign Organisation, he described the publication as fake, fraudulent and the handiwork of desperate political opponents.
Comr. Ugedi said that the purported statement circulating on social media was fabricated to mislead party members and create confusion following Chief Mulade’s victory at the primary election.
The Campaign Team maintained that Comr. Mulade remained the duly elected winner of the NDC primary election and had neither withdrawn from the contest nor endorsed any other aspirant.
Comr. Ugedi said that those behind the publication were individuals allegedly unsettled by what it described as Dr. Mulade’s overwhelming victory and growing support across Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas.
According to Comr. Ugedi, “the attention of Chief Sheriff Mulade and his supporters have been drawn to a fabricated and misleading statement currently circulating on social media, falsely claiming that Chief Sheriff Mulade conceded defeat and endorsed another aspirant in the NDC primary election for the Warri Federal Constituency”.
It added that at no time did Mulade issue any statement conceding defeat, stepping down from the race or withdrawing his aspiration.
The Campaign Team accused unnamed opponents of resorting to propaganda, forgery and misinformation after failing to secure support from delegates during the primary election.
While calling on party faithful, supporters and members of the public to disregard the alleged fake statement, Comr. Ugedi expressed confidence that the outcome of the primary election would withstand scrutiny.
Comr. Ugedi added, “this has reaffirmed Chief Mulade’s commitment to democracy, transparency and justice. No amount of political pressure or misinformation would overturn what it described as the mandate freely to him by delegates of the Constituency.
“The victory remains intact, the mandate remains valid, and the aspiration remains on course”.
