LAFIA – In a bid to adopt the used of clean cooking technology, and curb deforestation of trees in the name of making charcoal, the Nasarawa State Government has trained 59 women on how to manufacturing briquettes in order to adopt the use of clean cooking stoves.
Speaking while presenting the certificate of training to the beneficiaries, the Director General Human Capital Development Agency Hajiya Habiba Balarabe Suleiman, said that the Nasarawa State government has trained 59 women on how to manufacturing briquettes in order to halt the used charcoal and firewood that comes with health challenges
She said that the certificate they participants have received at the end of the training was the beginning of their enterprise and opportunity for them to use cooking technology.
According to the Director General,” The certificate you receive today is a beginning, not an end. Take what you have learned, build your enterprises, train others, and hold us to the commitments that I have made on this state’s behalf.
Your success is the truest measure of whether this program has worked.
“Let it be in recorded that Nasarawa State commits to the following: One, to the goal of one million households cooking cleanly by the year 2030, as we set out in the Clean Cooking stove implementation framework, and to making clean cooking the state’s first and most immediate priority under the Nasarawa State Low-Emission Development Strategy,” she explained.
The Director General of Human Capital Development Agency also said that the Nasarawa State government decided to trained 59 women to curb pressure on the deforestation and, cut the smoke that is harming they women in the state
She however added that the clean energy transition was properly designed to reduce smoking while cooking and increases an economic opportunities of beneficiaries in the state.
In an interviewed with one the beneficiary Anatu Cole, from Karu Local Government said that the capacity building on biomass-based briquette and clean cooking technology she had actually learnt a lot from the capacity building.
She said,” We grew up in an environment where we see our parents cooking in a toxic environment using firewood, which has posed our health in serious dangers like respiratory disease, lung health challenges. So, coming to this training has really equipped me a lot, not only learning, but to put it into practice, and to maintain clean cooking hygiene.
Also speaking Hanatu David Luka, who apart from acknowledging the Nasarawa State government for trained them on how to manufacturing briquettes in order to adopt clean cooking technology; she also promised to step down the knowledge gained from the training to her fellows.
