The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL), has launched a 12-month Human Capacity Development (HCD) programme aimed at equipping young Nigerians with critical skills required for supply base operations in the oil and gas sector.
The programme, which commenced on Tuesday at the LADOL Free Zone in Apapa, Lagos, will train 12 selected beneficiaries through a structured blend of classroom instruction and hands-on industry experience. The training focuses on specialised areas including logistics, trade, procurement, and supply chain operations.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the General Manager, Human Capacity Development, Ms. Alexis Emelle, described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital and the future of Nigeria’s energy industry.
According to Emelle, the programme underscores the Board’s commitment to building a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the oil and gas sector. She urged the trainees to approach the opportunity with discipline, dedication, and a strong willingness to learn.
“The industry requires professionals who are dependable, adaptable, and solution-driven. Every lesson and practical experience should be seen as an opportunity to build both competence and character,” she said.
Also speaking, the Nigerian Content Manager at SNEPCo, Mr. Obiajulu Onochie, highlighted human capital development as a cornerstone of operational excellence. He commended NCDMB for its consistent efforts in advancing local content development and strengthening industry capacity.
Onochie noted that SNEPCo remains committed to nurturing Nigerian talent, adding that the company has implemented several training programmes this year in areas such as cybersecurity, NEBOSH certification, blockchain architecture, and subsea engineering.
In her remarks, a representative of LADOL emphasised the critical role of Nigerian Content in the growth of indigenous companies, stating that the organisation’s current success is largely rooted in local content policies.
She reaffirmed LADOL’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance local capacity and prepare young Nigerians for impactful careers within the sector.
The 12 participants were selected through a rigorous two-stage process and will undergo intensive training designed to equip them with practical, industry-relevant skills.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Olaniye Sodiq expressed gratitude to the partnering organisations for investing in their development. He assured that the trainees are eager to learn and contribute meaningfully to the oil and gas industry upon completion of the programme.
The Human Capacity Development initiative further reinforces NCDMB’s drive to build sustainable local capacity by aligning training programmes with industry needs and creating pathways for young Nigerians to access high-value opportunities within the energy sector.
