New York City’s Male Nanny Lands Reality TV Role, Faces Doubts Abroad

Jack McCann, 23, has built an unusual career as a professional nanny in New York, a profession still dominated by women.
Based in the East Village, he’s turned childcare into a personal brand, amassing over 150,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram and popularising the term “NYC manny.”
McCann now features on Hulu’s Million Dollar Nannies, one of only two men in the cast. He says the role exposed him to scepticism he rarely faced at home.
Clients in New York and Virginia, where he grew up, largely accepted him without question. Wealthy families in Ibiza, however, doubted his suitability far more openly, querying whether he was fit for the job.
His route into childcare wasn’t obvious either. After university, McCann turned down a six-figure corporate role to keep working with children, a decision that ultimately led him to the show.
