Nigeria, Netherlands Set To Deepen Bilateral Ties As Haidara Presents Credentials To King Willem-Alexander

ABUJA – Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dr Mohammed Idris Haidara, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty, King Willem-Alexander, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the European nation.

The credential presentation ceremony took place at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, Spokesperson
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said in a statement on Thursday.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Haidara conveyed the goodwill and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Dutch monarch and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Netherlands.

He noted that both countries enjoy a longstanding relationship founded on mutual respect, expanding trade ties, and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.

According to the ambassador, collaboration between Nigeria and the Netherlands has continued to grow across key sectors, including agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security, and international justice.
Ambassador Haidara stated that his appointment by President Tinubu was aimed at deepening existing diplomatic ties, enhancing economic cooperation, and fostering stronger friendship between the two nations.

The envoy was accorded full diplomatic honours ahead of the ceremony.

He was conveyed to Noordeinde Palace in a royal carriage accompanied by the Royal Chamberlain and horsemen of the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police.

A military band stationed at the palace rendered the Nigerian national anthem following four honorary drumrolls, after which Ambassador Haidara inspected the guard of honour before proceeding to the formal presentation of credentials.

The event concluded with a brief bilateral meeting between King Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Haidara, during which issues of mutual interest and avenues for enhanced cooperation were discussed.

The presentation of credentials formally authorises Ambassador Haidara to serve as Nigeria’s principal diplomatic representative to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

According to a statement, the development underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic engagement with the Netherlands.
