Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment To African Aviation Integration At Lomé Air Transport Convention

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing air transport connectivity and regional integration across Africa as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, led a high-level delegation to welcome former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to the ongoing African Air Transport Convention and Expo 2026 in Lomé, Togo.

The continental aviation gathering has attracted policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and development partners from across Africa to discuss strategies for strengthening air connectivity, promoting regional integration and driving sustainable growth in the aviation sector.

According to a statement by the Minister s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tinder No good, on Monday, Obasanjo’s participation at the convention highlights his longstanding support for African economic integration and his belief in aviation as a key driver of trade, tourism and economic development across the continent.
Among the prominent leaders attending the event are Faure Gnassingbé and Paul Kagame, alongside senior government officials, aviation experts and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

The Nigerian delegation includes Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission, Mrs. Adefunke Adeyemi; Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) Ambassador for West Africa, Captain Juan “Boyo” Olubodun; and Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Chris Najomo, among other aviation officials.

Speaking on the sidelines of the convention, Keyamo reiterated Nigeria’s strong support for the Single African Air Transport Market and the African Continental Free Trade Area, stressing that improved air connectivity is essential for unlocking Africa’s vast economic opportunities.

He noted that Nigeria would continue collaborating with African countries and regional aviation institutions to develop policies and partnerships aimed at enhancing air transport infrastructure, attracting investment and facilitating the seamless movement of people and goods across the continent.

The African Air Transport Convention and Expo 2026 continues with a series of technical sessions, bilateral meetings and high-level engagements focused on building a more integrated, competitive and globally connected African aviation industry.
