Northern Christian Association Urges Calm, Unity Amid Nigeria’s Economic and Social Challenges

The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (NCA) has called on Nigerians to remain peaceful, united and law-abiding amid growing concerns over economic hardship, insecurity and other socio-economic challenges facing the country. In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the association acknowledged the difficulties many citizens are experiencing, including rising living costs, unemployment, poverty and security concerns.

The NCA said Nigerians have a constitutional right to express concerns about issues affecting their welfare, stressing that constructive engagement is an important part of democratic governance. While recognising public frustrations, the association cautioned against actions that could threaten public peace or be exploited by individuals or groups pursuing interests contrary to national stability.

“Concerns raised by citizens are real, legitimate and deserving of serious attention,” the statement said.The organisation urged government at all levels to adopt policies that reduce hardship, expand economic opportunities and improve living standards. It also called for greater engagement between leaders and citizens to strengthen trust and responsiveness in governance.The NCA warned against violence, destruction of public property and other actions capable of disrupting public order, noting that such activities could worsen existing challenges.

The association further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to promote dialogue, understanding and national cohesion. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peaceful initiatives that advance justice, human dignity and national unity, while encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to building a more prosperous country.
