Niger Tornadoes Football Club has announced the immediate dissolution of its entire technical crew following a comprehensive review of the team’s performance in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season.
The decision was taken after the club’s management examined a detailed technical report submitted by the outgoing technical crew and assessed the team’s overall performance throughout the campaign.
The ‘Ikon Allah Boys’ only secured their NPFL status on the final day of the season after edging Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan 1-0 at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.
The narrow victory, which ensured the club’s survival in the NPFL on the final day of the season, came after months of disappointing performances that had frustrated fans, stakeholders and government officials across Niger State.
According to the club’s management, the decision to dissolve the technical crew was informed by widespread dissatisfaction with the team’s inconsistent performances, poor away record, and recurring struggles to avoid relegation.
The 2025/2026 campaign marked the fifth consecutive season in which Niger Tornadoes had been forced to battle for survival until the final day of the league season, a situation many supporters described as unacceptable for a club with the team’s history and potential.
Following a review of the technical report submitted by the outgoing crew, the management concluded that a complete overhaul of the technical department had become necessary to reposition the club and chart a new course ahead of the next season.
The club disclosed that a new technical crew would be unveiled in the coming weeks, stressing the need for an early appointment to provide sufficient time for preparations, player recruitment, and squad rebuilding before the commencement of the 2026/2027 NPFL season.
A club official said the move demonstrates management’s determination to restore the club’s pride and competitiveness.
“With this action, management is committed to restoring the pride of Niger Tornadoes. Early preparation ahead of next season is non-negotiable if we must achieve different results,” the official stated.
The management’s decision has been welcomed by many supporters across the state, who have called on both the government and club management to begin preparations early and ensure continuity in the club’s administration for the overall benefit of the team.
With the 2026/2027 NPFL season fast approaching, attention is now focused on the club’s next move as supporters hope the changes will finally bring an end to the cycle of last-day survival battles and usher in a more competitive era for Niger Tornadoes.
