ABUJA – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory Command (FCT),
has apprehended two suspects for criminal conspiracy and vandalism.
The arrest followed credible intelligence and a swift operation by operatives of the critical national assets and infrastructure (CNAI) of the Command, at Chika area of Airport Road, Abuja.
According to a statement by the FCT CDPRO, DSC Monica Ojobi, on Thursday the suspects Yusuf Shafiu, Male, 35 years old from Lere local Government Area, Kaduna State, was arrested along Chika, Airport road, vandalizing electrical cables.
Also apprehended was one Ishaya Bulus, Male, 25 years old from Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, along the same Chika, Airport road Abuja, while carrying out the act.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects are Cutting sew and Armoured cables.
Speaking on the arrest, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, phD reiterated the Command’s dogged commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure under the Corps’ purview in the FCT.
Odumosu, decried the persistent destruction of these essential public items that have been provided by the government to better the generality of the public.
“It’s really disheartening that in this age and time some people are still bent on taking us backwards, the money the government uses to replace these national assets would have been put into other projects apart from the fact that such actions affects us directly through public power outages or blackout due to damaged electricity facilities.
“It is imperative that we watch out for this criminals and report them promptly to security agencies, it behoves on us all to fight these vandals to a standstill in the Federal Capital Territory”, Odumosu insisted.
The FCT Boss, urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NSCDC office or through the Command’s emergency lines 09166229882 or 08159066244.
The suspects are currently undergoing further investigation, upon conclusion of investigation, they will be charged to court in line with the provisions of the law.
