NTDA Condemns Suspicious Death Of C&S Elder In Ondo Hotel, Demands Thorough Investigation

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has expressed deep sadness and grave concern over the tragic and suspicious death of Elder Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, a prominent leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church. Elder Fajana’s lifeless body was recently discovered in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the Director-General of the NTDA, Mr. Ola Awakan, extended profound condolences to the deceased’s family, the C&S Church, and the entire Akungba-Akoko community. He noted, however, that the unfortunate incident raises critical questions regarding safety and security within Nigeria’s hospitality establishments.
The DG pointed out that the circumstances surrounding the elder’s death including the reported handling of his remains without proper medical certification and allegations of suspicious activity demand immediate clarity.
“Such events undermine public confidence in the hospitality sector and cannot be tolerated,” Mr. Awakan stated.
“While we commend the Ondo State Police Command for their swift action in arresting three suspects, we urge law enforcement to conduct a thorough, transparent, and professional probe. We must uncover the full circumstances of this death, track the unauthorized movement of the body, and expose any potential lapses or complicity.”
He emphasized that swift justice is vital to reassure the public and deter negligence or foul play within the sector.
Mr. Awakan reassured the public that guest safety remains the NTDA’s top priority. As the apex regulatory body for tourism in Nigeria, the Authority is actively collaborating with law enforcement and relevant security agencies to safeguard visitors and tourists.
Moving forward, the NTDA will reactivate its nationwide monitoring exercises through collaboration with State governments to strictly enforce safety standards across all hospitality facilities. The DG reiterated the Authority’s commitment to working alongside hotel operators, law enforcement, and community leaders to foster a secure, responsible, and thriving tourism environment.
